Contrary to what dianaring.com will tell you, this is NOT an exact replica of Princess Diana’s engagement ring. First of all, why would a PRINCESS wear sterling silver? Hers had to be either white gold or platinum. To believe otherwise is simply foolish. Secondly, the center stone was SURROUNDED by several prongs – not just four wimpy prongs. This is a poor attempt at a look-alike (and rather expensive for just plastic stones in sterling silver and poor craftsmanship). It is NOT an exact replica.
well, it is an attempt. it does actually have four prongs, as the first ring diana had did. 2 prongs per corner and you can see them if you look closely. diana’s ring was remade in the first year of her marriage due to royal dismay that she picked it straight out of garrarrds 80 christmas catalogue, so, within the first 12 months, they had it remade and that is where you see the fully surrounded stone with all the prongs. but if you look closely at her ring in her very first appearances with it on, you’ll see it is like this one with 2 prongs per corner. this one also has the correct amount of surrounding stones..now, for those of us who cannot afford, or do not wish to pay for white gold..as diana’s ring was set in 18kt white gold, silver looks very very similar. but there is one major advantage-besides price…silver will stay white…whereas white gold does tend to revert and needs to be retreated to be turned back to white. you see, there is no such thing a ‘white’ gold, we make it white by taking yellow gold and treating it. so, it will tend to change back. now, i can’t see the info on this ring anywhere, so i don’t know if the stones are fake or real…but it is a good reprentation of diana’s ring..pretty acurate. the sapphire could be a bit wider at the ends, but it’s one of the closest i’ve seen…:)
